So this past week Jon and I had a flash back of parenting young kids. I know so many of you are in that season- keep going! You got this! Stay engaged! As for us it's been quite a while. My brother and his wife adopted 3 boys out of foster care . Despite the long days and the sacrifice they have made as a family they deeply love these boys and are truly AMAZING parents to 7 kids- YES 7, ages 3-23!! Their family recently moved to Lynchburg and we finally got a date on the calendar to keep the 3 boys over night. We geared up and made a game plan: Kids Cove, Frosty and Fries, Putt-Putt indoor games, Chick-fil-A, baths and bedtime. Keep them busy... keep them clean (lots of hand washing)... and wear them out and go to bed. Right before we picked them up we dug up from years ago our 3 house rules and decided to implement them upon pick up. Obey right away Be Kind Always tell the Truth We had so much fun not just touring Lynchburg and kissing all over their cute faces (trust me... take a look at the that last video) but also we had fun making the 3 boys memorize the rules and of course live by them. It reminded me that those "rules" might be good for us adults too... obey right away- God wants my immediate obedience. So much fruit comes when we obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Be Kind- Jesus ask us to love those that aren't always the easiest to love. To show kindness to EVERYONE. It diffuses fights and quarrels and shows others Jesus. Someone just might be open to the gospel because of our kindness. Always tell the truth- honesty in relationships is key and it's how trust is built. Keeping things in the dark or hiding our sin, only gives the enemy more ground to grow that sin. When these rules were followed in our home we couldn't help but pour out good things to our kids. Maybe just maybe God wants to pour out his favor on us when we take action on these things. Side note: Shout out to all our Mosaic families that choose to open their homes to the fatherless. My heart is full!
